The Regulatory, Inspectorate and Compliance (RIC) Directorate of the National Road Safety Authority has conducted operational audit of vulcanizers (road transport related service providers), in the Greater Accra Region. The directorate identified about 40 workshops of the Association of Vulcanizers, Ghana, within the Greater Accra Region to assist with the exercise.

The exercise aimed to provide an overall understanding of the existing practice standards, profile and road safety orientation of vulcanizing staff. The audit focused on risk assessment records, records of safe working procedures, records of safety training, permit-to-work systems, accident/near miss investigations and reports, discipline and commendation policies, emergency plans, machinery and equipment, safe operational documents and records of maintenance. A checklist was created to guide the exercise.

A team made up of staff from the Head Office and the Greater Accra Region were involved in the audit exercise. The team visited the vulcanizing service centres and gathered information on their operational processes.
