DRY SEASON AND ROAD SAFETY: A CALL TO ACTION FOR MOTORISTS AND PEDESTRIANS
The National Road Safety Authority has observed with concern the current change in the weather condition pattern across the country. This prevailing situation is often characterized by the blow of dry and dusty winds which can significantly impact negatively on road safety. Visibility is usually reduced due to the dust in the air, making it difficult for drivers to see other vehicles, pedestrians, and road signs. With higher temperatures leading to more frequent dust storms, it’s crucial that everyone takes extra precautions to minimize risks to prevent crashes.
By this release the Authority therefore wishes to advise motorists to adapt their driving to the change in weather by observing the following:
The Authority emphasizes that visibility is reduced for both drivers and pedestrians during this time therefore it is important for all road users to keep to the above measures and for pedestrians to wear bright and reflective clothing to increase visibility.
Road contractors are also advised to wet the surfaces of the roads at construction sites and erect signs to ensure work zone safety.
