The National Road Safety Authority Act 2019 (Act 993) mandates the National Road Safety Authority to constitute District Road Safety Committees (DRSCs) in all MDAs nationwide.

The committees aim to increase road safety awareness at the district level and tackle localized road safety issues. The District Road Safety Committees will also identify and provide solutions for road safety at the district level.

The membership of the DRSCs shall comprise of but not be limited to: District Assembly Coordinating Director (Chair), National Road Safety Authority, Local Transport Union Representative, Representative from the Police, Representative from the Local Media, Representative from the Road Agencies, Representative from the Health Services, An Assembly Member, Head, Department of Transport as Focal Person & Secretary (or Planning officer where no Transport Head exist)

The efforts of the DRSCs will contribute to the reductions in Crashes, Injuries, and Deaths (CIDs) in the country.

Currently, 179 committees have been formed out of the 261 district assemblies. 69 Committees have been inaugurated and 82 Committees are yet to be formed.
