WORLD BANK DONATES PICKUPS TO NRSC
The National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) has taken delivery of ten (10) Toyota Hilux Pickup vehicles from the World Bank as part of the Transport Sector Improvement Project (TSIP). The vehicles are expected to augment the fleet of vehicles at the Commission as well as support the sensitization efforts of the NRSC at the regional and district levels.
The Planning Minister, Prof. Gyan-Baffour made the presentation of the vehicles on behalf of the World Bank at the recently held Ghana Drivers and Road Safety Awards. Receiving the vehicles, the Director of Planning and Programmes at the NRSC, Ing. David Osafo Adonteng expressed his profound gratitude to the World Bank and President for the vehicles and promised they would be put to good use to improve the visibility of the Commission and ultimately enhance safety on our roads.
The World Bank has been a strategic partner of the Commission since its inception and is currently supporting a number of road safety interventions with $4.9m over a three-year period. The measures include the provision of crossing aids or lollipop stands for selected schools across the country, provision of road traffic enforcement equipment for the police, printing of road safety education materials and production of audio-visual publicity materials. In addition, the Bank is supporting the Commission to build a very robust road safety data management system as well providing assistance aimed at addressing some human resource capacity gaps.
